Overview

The style most factories refuse to run

Jockstraps and thongs sit at the awkward end of menswear: low volume, high margin, and a construction most factories have never learned. The pouch has to be shaped rather than merely cut, the rear straps have to hold tension without cutting in, and the proportions change entirely between a fashion fit and an athletic fit.

We run these styles on the same lines as our underwear, with their own patterns and a dedicated sample maker. That means a 300-piece order gets a proper development cycle rather than a modified brief pattern.

  • Classic athletic jockstraps with 25–75 mm elastic waistbands
  • Fashion jockstraps in modal, nylon, mesh and novelty knits
  • Thongs, G-strings and harness styles
  • Elastic braid with woven or plush jacquard branding
  • Sublimation print, embroidery and contrast stitching

Why Finetex

Small volumes, proper development

A dedicated sample maker

Jockstrap patterns are developed by the same person who samples them, so fit comments translate into pattern changes without a loss in translation.

Proportion guidance

Strap width, pouch depth and rise all change the perceived fit. We photograph the sample on a form so you can judge proportion before bulk.

Elastic sourcing

Elastic braid, plush and jacquard waistbands sourced by width, stretch and colour, with woven branding available.

Neutral retail packing

Plain cartons, neutral polybags and no external product description unless you request it.

300-piece minimum

A small-batch MOQ, because low-volume styles are how many of our customers started.

Fast sampling

5–7 days for a development sample, with two fit revisions included before bulk.

Process

How a jockstrap programme runs

01

Fit brief

Tell us athletic or fashion fit, coverage level and the waistband width you have in mind. Reference images help more than descriptions.

02

Pattern development

We draft a pattern from your reference or from our block, and sample it in a stock fabric to test proportion quickly.

03

Fit sample review

Sample photographed flat and on a form; you mark up proportions and we revise the pattern.

04

Bulk fabric sample

Once the fit is agreed, we sample again in the final fabric, elastic and colour.

05

Production and inspection

Cutting, sewing, elastic application and an AQL 2.5 final audit.

06

Packing and shipment

Neutral packing, export documentation and delivery to your forwarder.

Compliance

Certifications and testing that your importer will ask for

Certification is checked before the order is placed, not after. We hold the current reports and can arrange buyer-specific testing at the same time as the pre-production sample.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

Fabric and trims tested for harmful substances against the current limit values, with the certificate renewed every year.

BSCI / Sedex audited factory

Social compliance audit reports available for your supplier onboarding file, covering wages, hours and safety.

Bamboo, modal and recycled fibre papers

Fibre composition and chain-of-custody documents for bamboo, Lenzing modal, TENCEL™ and recycled polyester claims.

Colour fastness and shrinkage reports

Wash, rub, perspiration and dimensional-stability tests run on the bulk fabric before cutting starts.

Country-of-origin and customs paperwork

Commercial invoice, packing list, HS codes and origin declaration prepared so your broker clears the shipment without a delay.

Buyer-specific testing programmes

We work directly with SGS, Intertek and Bureau Veritas for buyer protocols such as Walmart, Target or ISO 9001 programmes.

FAQ

Jockstrap manufacturing questions

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

Our standard MOQ is 300–1,000 pieces per style, mixed sizes. Styles using stock fabric can start from 300 pieces; a fully custom knit or dye lot usually starts at 1,000 pieces per colour. Tell us your target quantity and we will confirm what is achievable.

How long does sampling take?

A development sample takes 5–7 working days after artwork and fabric are confirmed. A full size set takes 10–12 working days. Sample cost is credited against the bulk order.

What is the lead time for bulk production?

Bulk production runs 15–45 days from deposit and approved pre-production sample, depending on quantity, fabric availability and trim lead times. We confirm the schedule in writing before you pay the deposit.

Which payment terms do you accept?

T/T (30% deposit, 70% against the copy of the bill of lading), L/C at sight, and PayPal for samples. Terms are confirmed in the proforma invoice.

Can you handle fabric, labels and packaging as well?

Yes. Fabric knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, printing, embroidery, labels, hangtags and retail packaging all sit inside our own supply chain, so a single purchase order covers the finished, retail-ready product.

How do you control quality?

Every order passes an incoming fabric inspection, an in-line check at 30% and 70% of the run, a final AQL 2.5 inspection before packing, and a shipment check against the approved sample and packing list.

Is there a real minimum order for jockstraps?

300 pieces per style, mixed sizes. Unlike a custom knit, a jockstrap uses stock base fabric and stock elastic, so the minimum is driven by cutting efficiency rather than by a mill minimum.

Can you produce swim-adjacent jockstraps?

Yes, with chlorine-resistant nylon/spandex and appropriate care labelling. Tell us the intended use at brief stage — swimwear fabrics behave differently in the wash and the labelling requirements change.

Proportion is the whole product

Two jockstraps made from identical fabric and identical elastic can look like different products. A 38 mm waistband with a deep pouch reads as athletic; the same waistband with a shallow pouch and short straps reads as fashion. The proportion decisions are made at pattern stage and cannot be corrected by better sewing.

We developed our jockstrap block by sampling the same garment at three pouch depths and three strap widths, then photographing each on a form. That reference set is what we send a new customer, because it is faster to point at a picture than to describe a rise in millimetres.

Elastic is a specification, not an accessory

The waistband carries the entire garment. Width, elongation at a given tension, and colour fastness to perspiration all matter, and all three differ between nominally similar elastics. We send the elastic specification with the sample so you are approving the actual component that will be used in bulk.

Small batches and the economics of a launch

Most jockstrap programmes launch at 300–600 pieces and grow. That is a fine way to work, provided the tooling that cannot be amortised — printed packaging, custom elastic, engraved hardware — is either deferred or paid for explicitly. We list which components carry a setup cost, so a first order is priced honestly rather than cross-subsidised and clawed back later.

Selling through restricted channels

Many of our customers sell through channels with advertising restrictions. We support that with neutral product naming on invoices and documents, plain outer cartons, and no branded inserts unless you request them.
